Finances

The tv at home was tuned to the financial channel today as I watched, with my parents, As Debt Due Us Part, Princess, and The Suze Osburn show. Needless to say, while this was not the most thrilling three hours, it allowed me some time to reflect on my own finances. The importance of saving (recommended 8 months of emergency funds) kept coming up in addition to not spending on wants, just on needs unless you can actually afford it. The Bible teaches us many of these important principles as well.
However, something that was never touched on in those shows was the importance of tithing. Giving the 10% or more to God first refocuses us onto Him and allows us to trust that He is in charge of our finances. Plus with that money we can fund the vital work that His body is doing around the world whether at college campuses in the US, Australia, or Japan, at camps over the summer, or in churches all around the world. God is moving and working in our lives. Be responsible with His money and return some of it back to Him.
